A parent drops off their 3-year-old and scans the room. Sticky tables, scuffed floors, a washroom that smells like it was cleaned last week. They won’t say anything today, but they’ll start looking at other daycares tonight. In childcare and education settings, cleanliness isn’t about passing inspection — it’s about keeping families and keeping kids healthy.
What School and Daycare Cleaning Requires
Children touch everything. They put things in their mouths. They sit on floors. A cleaning program for schools and daycares has to account for this — different products, different protocols, different standards than an office or retail space.
Daily Cleaning:
- All classroom surfaces sanitized — tables, desks, chairs, cubbies
- Toy and play equipment surface sanitization (non-toxic, child-safe products)
- Washroom deep clean — child-height fixtures, change tables, step stools
- Kitchen and food prep area sanitization
- Floor care — vacuum carpeted areas, damp-mop hard floors (no residue products)
- Garbage removal and bin sanitization
- Door handles, light switches, railings — all high-touch surfaces
Weekly:
- Nap area deep clean — cot and mat sanitization
- Art and sensory area cleanup — paint, glue, sand, water table surroundings
- Staff room and admin office cleaning
- Window ledge and shelf dusting
- Floor deep clean — machine scrub for hard floors
Monthly / Periodic:
- Carpet extraction for classroom and hallway carpeted areas
- Wall washing — kids leave marks at their height constantly
- Outdoor play area surface cleaning (covered structures, benches, storage)
- Deep sanitization during illness outbreaks (norovirus, flu, hand-foot-and-mouth)
Compliance: Ontario Childcare Licensing Requirements
Licensed childcare centres in Ontario must meet the standards in the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) and its regulations. Cleaning directly impacts your licensing compliance:
- Regulation 137/15, Section 15: Premises must be kept clean and sanitary at all times
- Toy sanitization: Items mouthed by children must be cleaned and sanitized daily or removed from use
- Washroom facilities: Must be cleaned and sanitized daily, with supplies available at all times
- Sleep equipment: Cots, mats, and linens must be cleaned on a regular schedule
- Outbreak protocols: Enhanced cleaning procedures required during communicable disease outbreaks
Our cleaning plans are built around these requirements. When your licensing inspector visits, the cleaning side of your operation won’t be a concern.
Products We Use in Childcare Settings
We use only child-safe, low-toxicity products in daycare and school environments:
- All disinfectants are DIN-registered with Health Canada and approved for childcare settings
- No harsh fumes — products are low-VOC and fragrance-free where possible
- Food-safe sanitizers for kitchen and eating surfaces
- Floor products leave no slippery residue (children run, slip-resistant matters)
- Green cleaning products available for centres that prefer them
Types of Facilities We Clean

Frequently Asked Questions
Are your cleaning products safe for children?
Yes. All products used in childcare settings are low-toxicity, low-VOC, and DIN-registered. We carry SDS sheets for every product and can provide them to parents or licensing inspectors on request.
Can you clean during operating hours?
We typically clean after the children leave — evenings or early mornings. Mid-day washroom refreshes and touchpoint cleaning can be arranged if needed, performed by a crew member who has a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Do your crews have background checks?
Yes. All crew members assigned to childcare and school facilities have a current Vulnerable Sector Check (Police Records Check). This is non-negotiable for us.
What happens during a disease outbreak?
We have an enhanced cleaning protocol for outbreak situations — increased frequency, enhanced disinfection of all surfaces, and targeted treatment of washrooms and nap areas. We can activate this within 24 hours of notification.
How much does daycare cleaning cost?
A typical 3,000 sq ft daycare cleaned 5x per week runs $1,500-2,200/month. Larger facilities with multiple rooms and outdoor areas are quoted individually. Request a quote.
